I always see the Gryphon Cafe on my way to work and always wanted to stop in. I finally did this morning. As soon as I walked in, I instantly felt the "cool" vibe of this place. Inside there's wood floors, wood tables, a chalboard wall featuring the drinks and food specials and local art hung all over the walls for sale. I ordered my stuff to go but I could see myself just chilling out here to work or listen to music while sipping on a fancy latte eating a croissant.
Today I ordered an Almond Milk Cappuccino (16oz) and an Open-Faced Smoked Salmon toast and my total came to $15. It's certainly not inexpensive but the cappuccino was delicious and the caffeine strong. My salmon toast was really simple but tasty.
I would come back again to treat myself to a special cup of cappuccino since I got a pretty good Monday morning jolt from the caffeine! -

This place is super cute. The staff are polite and the coffee is delicious! The cafe is large enough to hang out in for a morning beverage, read, or meet up. A giant menu explaining the different beverages they make is helpful to someone who wants to try something new. They offer food as well; I haven't tried it, but the options looks delicious and priced well.
Of note, my boyfriends coffee was the bitter side (perhaps the roast); but, my soy hazelnut latte was perfection! -

Awesome cute little cafe in downtown Wayne. Just the kind of place my very hip and trendy teenage niece was looking for. The coffees--straight up drip, cappuccino & cold frappe--were all delicious. The chai tea latte wasn't quite chai as we had expected but if you're a coffee lover I'd definitely recommend this place.

I wanted to love this place, the only independent cafe I have found in Wayne, but I've had two bad experiences.
What's good: prompt, friendly service, nice, funky atmosphere, air conditioning downstairs perfect on a hot morning. Black delicious (to me) coffee had that slightly burnt taste that is growing popular. The selection of bottled and house-made cold drinks is big for a small cafe, and they clearly have a dedicated following of eco-friendly customers stopping in with reusable mugs.
Now the downside: On two visits a week apart, the dishwasher was broken so I couldn't use a house mug. I left my reusable one at home both days, and was forced to use a paper cup, which I avoid. My first visit, I ordered a multi-grain bagel with veggie cream cheese. "No veggie cream cheese today," so I had plain. The already tough bagel was seriously over-toasted, rendering it inedible. They kindly gave me a card for a free drink when I pointed it out.
On my second visit, I again had to use a paper cup and ordered a sesame bagel with plain cream cheese. This time I got an everything bagel, which included anise seeds I don't care for. I didn't say anything.
I hope the Gryphon can get the dishwasher fixed and work on bagel identification and toasting skills. I'll give them one more try. -

Mornings at the Gryphon are one of my new favorite things. Affordably priced and down-to-earth, this cafe is the perfect place for reading the morning paper, firing off a few emails, or catching up on some good conversation. It's cozy like an English cafe. Stop by for lunch, too. The soup is tasty.
